Privacy, in plain language.

Effective September 21, 2026. This notice describes the current CollegeRooming pilot.

What we collect.

We store your email address, a securely hashed password, display name, campus, self-described study stage, housing preferences, dates, budget, optional hobbies, and the living-habit answers you provide. We also store listings, connection requests, messages, saved items, reports, and confirmation records. We do not request government IDs in this pilot.

Who sees what.

Published roommate profiles are visible to signed-in members. Your email and university email are not displayed publicly. Reviewed property listings are public. Messages are visible to participants and authorized administrators when needed for support or moderation. Do not put private information in your biography or listing description.

How information is used.

We use account data to run the service, compare roommate preferences, deliver requested account emails, prevent abuse, and investigate reports. Compatibility is rule-based; advertisers do not receive access to private questionnaire answers. We do not sell personal data.

Service providers and cookies.

Hosting and transactional email use Amazon Web Services. Google reCAPTCHA protects account and submission forms and may process device and network information under Google’s policies. Essential session and security cookies keep you signed in and prevent forged requests. No advertising or analytics cookies are installed by this pilot.

Retention and control.

Profiles inactive for 30 days are paused. Confirmation links expire after 24 hours and records are removed after two days. Sent email queue entries are removed after seven days; server backups rotate after 14 days. Operational logs may retain request metadata for security and troubleshooting.

Use Account & Privacy to download your account data or delete your account. Deletion removes your profile, listings, connections, and associated messages from the active application. Deleted data may remain in backups until they expire; anonymized report records can remain for moderation history.

Contact privacy@collegerooming.com for access, correction, deletion, or privacy questions. CollegeRooming is for adults 18 and older. If a child has submitted information, contact us so we can remove it.
